05 April 2019 – Polokwane United coach Bally Smart is refusing to make any pronouncements about championship chances even after his club’s 1-0 win over title-rivals, The Dolphins.  The win lifts them into second in the Limpopo ABC Motsepe League standings, four points behind leaders Madritas FC.

Smart does not want his players to get carried away, however he concedes that second place on the log with only four games to play does represent a “slight” improvement in the grand scheme of things.

“I think it’s important for me as coach of the team to keep the boys grounded,” the 29-year-old coach told SAFA.net. “When you’re talking about qualifying for the playoffs, it’s premature.  It’s too early.”

“Our dream and our plan at the beginning of the season was to improve on last season’s performance where we finished fourth on the league table,” Smart continued. “Obviously this is a promotional league so an improved performance means challenging for the title and a place in Cape Town.

“It’s a tough league and there’s four teams still capable of winning the league so we are in a huge fight but the confidence and belief is definitely there,” he concluded.

Polokwane United travels to University of Limpopo’s Oscar Mpetha Stadium on Saturday, 06 April, to face Ollesdas FC who are struggling and only won twice in their last seven games.

League leaders Madridtas and third-placed The Dolphins will lock horns with Mighty FC and Giyani Hotspurs, respectively, on Saturday while fourth-place Mikhado FC will host Great North at Rabali Stadium.
