29 March 2019 – The FIFA eNations World Cup in the UK next month is going to be a memorable achievement for Ryan Bathos who will be jetting off to London alongside his playing partner, Thabo Moloi for the two-day global showpiece.

The 22-year-old gamer from Cape Town who started his gaming career two years ago with a group of friends will be representing South Africa for the first time in an international competition and says there is no better way of doing this other than playing against the top gamers in the world.

The third year Financial Accounting student was making reference to the tough group they are finding themselves in where they will be up against hosts, England, Saudi Arabia, France and Finland.

“We have been drawn in a very tough group which in my opinion is the tournament’s group of death. The world’s best players, which we have been following are in our group and it won’t be easy. However, this is what you get at playing at the world stage and it is a challenge to Thabo and I to cause an upset” said a confident Bathos.

Bathos and Moloi qualified for the FIFA eNations World Cup after seeing off very strong contenders in the South African qualifiers earlier this month.

“Being the underdog is always an advantage because no one really knows much about the gamers in the South African gaming scene which has exploded in the last year. Anything can happen on the day and we are looking forward to it” concluded a confident Bathos.

The duo has in the meantime been hard at work in preparation for the global spectacle with daily friendly matches against each other as well as local and international gamers online.

Travelling to London will not be entirely new to Bathos having travelled to the UK on a few occasions, while 17-year-old Moloi will be relying on his partner and close friend to help him settle down in the extremely cold conditions of London.

A total of 20 FIFA Member Associations will be taking part in the tournament with South Africa being the first and only representative from CAF.
