25 March 2019 – The Eastern Cape ABC Motsepe League is set to be decided on the very last day of the season next month with five rounds of matches remaining. PE Stars ascended to the summit of the table after a 4-0 thrashing of Matta Millan to go top of the table for the first time this season.
The in-form PE Stars have been in scintillating form this season, doing well to keep pressure on all the title contenders. Stars currently lead the pack purely on goal difference with Bizana Pondo Chiefs and Mthatha Bucks all equal on 53 points.
Bucks, who occupied top spot for most parts of the season had to dig deep against the wounded Millan with a 2-1 win to keep their title hopes alive. Bizana Pondo Chiefs recorded their 17th win of the season with an impressive 3-1 away win over Amavarara.
With just five remaining matches will be crucial for the top three who are all eyeing a place in the National Play Offs where a place in the National First Division will be up for grabs.
Tornado FC are not to be written off just yet with anything possible in these closing stages. The club which represented the league in the Nedbank Cup is just two points behind the top three and very much still in the race for a top finish.
Things are just as interesting at the bottom of the table with The Guys on 10 points and Bush Bucks tied on 16 points with Future Tigers. Anything less than victories for bottom placed The Guys will see straight to the SAB League.
