25 March 2019 – More twists and turns are expected in the highly entertaining Gauteng ABC Motsepe League as the season enters its closing stages.
The wheels seem to have come off for title favourites, Baberwa FC, who led the standings for the better half of the season after another devastating loss against fellow title contenders, JDR Stars this weekend who edged them 2-1 at home to remain top of the table with 56 points, just three ahead of Baberwa.
JDR have been on the heels of Baberwa throughout the season and this past weekend’s was a reward for their never say die attitude displayed this season. Needless to say, the last four matches staring from this weekend will be like cup finals for the top three which also include Dondol Stars who registered a hard fought 1-0 win against M.Tigers FC.
The result sees Dondol tied on points with the log leaders and just separated by a two-goal difference.
A tough encounter awaits them at home against fifth placed Alexandra United while the log leaders will be looking at cementing their place at the top when they welcome Vaal Professionals.
Baberwa, who will be hoping that their title contenders drop points will be away to the wounded Swallows FC who were narrowly edged 3-2 this past weekend. Anything less than a victory for Baberwa could see their title hopes shattered after leading the stands for the better half of the season with just four rounds of matches remaining in Gauteng.
