14 March 2019 – Just eight games stand in the way of Steenberg United from being crowned champions of the Western Cape ABC Motsepe League. United have been on a dream run this season and look unstoppable as title favourites.
The log leaders had a very tough encounter away from home against a highly spirited FN Rangers. They emerged as 3-2 victors and registered their fifth straight win after their winning streak was disturbed last month by Zizwe United in a 1-1 draw.
The Magic lie second behind the log leaders and have a game in hand which has given them hope that anything can happen in these closing stages. Even though they are six points behind the log leaders, The Magic are very much in the title race despite their disappointing 0-0 stalemate with D&G Orient over the weekend.
The Magic will be looking at dimming the Morning Stars in this weekend’s fixture in a must win encounter should they want to remain in the race.
Morning Stars moved up to sixth on the table after coming out victorious in a five-goal thriller that saw them edged Ajax Cape Town 3-2 at home.
Third placed Zizwe United may still be mathematically in the race but would need to ensure that they collect maximum points in all their remaining fixtures.
They have something to build on from their 1-0 away win this past weekend against Battalions FC and will be looking at carrying on with their winning momentum in the remaining fixtures starting this weekend against the wounded Ajax Cape Town.
