12 March 2019 – Rendani Thavhana’s second-half goal and Mikhado’s third-consecutive clean sheet lifted I Kwasha Fhedzi to a Limpopo ABC League1-0 win at Rabali Stadium on Friday, 8 March.

Mikhado haven’t lost a league encounter since being beaten 1-0 by The Dolphins in December 2018, though their five draws from 11 games since the beginning of 2019 means that they’re still four points behind league leaders Madritas and in third place.

“We are heading into the business end of the season now, and so you have to stay focused and not think, ‘wow, now we’ve got it,’” Mikhado captain Thulani Mabizela said of the score.

“So, it was very much a matter of ‘yes, we’ve got it’ because we came into the game feeling good and the score simply lifted our spirits, but not to the point where we lose focus.”

A 1-0 win also marked Mikhado’s third consecutive clean sheet and Mabizela was also pleased with his 39-year-old keeper Amon Phophi who once played in the PSL with Black Leopards.

Experience will be crucial for Mikhado if they are to extend their run, and Phophi is making the most so far of his final playing days.

“One thing that you really need is experience in goal and confidence that spills to everybody else,” Mabizela said. “

Next up for Mikhado is a trip to Berachah Valley on Wednesday, 13 March. Berachah Valley, alongside Madridtas, are the only two teams in the Limpopo ABC League who are yet to lose a game at home. The Dolphins will welcome Ndengeza at the Ben Serake Sports Complex on the same day.

In the other weekend results, Ndengeza snapped up their two games losing streak with a 4-0 thrashing of Polokwane Academy and Madridtas became the first team this season to score three goals in a single game against Polokwane United in a 3-1 win at The University of Limpopo.
