3 March 2019 –The South African Football Association (SAFA) would like to send its profound condolences to the family and friends of club owner, Siphiwo Nyobo, popularly known as Mawawa who was shot dead on Saturday, 2 March 2019 in East London.

Nyobo owned Tornado FC which plays in the ABC Motsepe League.

A prominent East London businessman and traditional healer, Nyobo was shot while leaving North End stadium after watching a soccer match. He was allegedly shot by gunmen on foot while seated in his car.

“We are saddened by another loss of life and on behalf of the soccer family, would like to extend my profound condolences to the family, club and friends of Nyobo.

“We call upon the law enforcement agents to track down the culprits who carried out this dastardly act, and bring them to book,” said SAFA acting CEO Russell Paul

SAFA also called on the public not to rush to conclusions regarding the motive of the killing, urging everyone to wait for the police to conclude their investigations.
