28 February 2019 – Vice captain of the Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana, Refiloe Jane, says it was a long and hard journey to get to a century of matches for the South African Senior Women’s National Team, but it was worth it.
The Australia-based midfielder made her 100th appearance for her country on Wednesday, 27 February 2019 in the 2-2 draw against Finland in the first match of the 2019 Cyprus Women’s Cup in Larnaca.
Jane celebrated her milestone with a great gesture from captain Janine van Wyk, who handed her the armband to lead the team
The vice captain made her debut for Banyana Banyana in this tournament back in 2012 against Northern Ireland – she has now featured in five editions, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2018 and 2019.
Fifinho, as she is called by her teammates, has scored 12 goals for her country – the first coming against Botswana in an international friendly match in 2012.
Jane joins an elite group of players on 100+ caps, like captain Van Wyk (162), Noko Matlou (149), Nompumelelo Nyandeni (147), Nothando Vilakazi (125), Portia Modise (retired – 124), and Amanda Dlamini (retired – 105),
