127,000 – The largest attendance ever for an U-20 World Cup match, recorded at the 1991 final between Portugal and Brazil in Lisbon. The hosts won the title following a penalty shootout. However, the highest average attendance came eight years earlier during Mexico 1983, with a fantastic 36,099 attending each game on average.

888 – Games played in competition history to date. Brazil lead the way in appearing in the most so far, clocking up a tournament record of 103 across 18 appearances – similarly the competition high. 631 – Players who featured at this tournament before later appearing at a FIFA World Cup. From those, only 14 players have lifted both the U-20 World Cup and the FIFA World Cup, including four of France’s 2018 winner’s, namely Paul Pogba, Florian Thauvin, Samuel Umtiti and Alphonse Areola.

14 – seconds were all Nigeria’s Monday Odiaka needed following kick-off to score against Canada in 1985, a record that still stands to this day.

11 – Goals scored by Argentina’s Javier Saviola at the 2001 edition, when he formed part of the South Americans’ triumphant side. His tally remains a competition best, even though Brazil’s Adailton scored six in a single in 1997 during a 10-3 win over Korea Republic.

6 – Titles won by record champions Argentina, closely followed by Brazil (five). Next on the list are Portugal (two), England, France, Germany, Serbia, Soviet Union, Spain, Yugoslavia and Ghana.

6 – Referees have used the U-20 World Cup as a springboard to go on to officiate a FIFA World Cup Final: Arnaldo Coelho (BRA, 1982), Edgardo Codesal Mendez (MEX, 1990), Sandor Puhl (HUN, 1994), Horacio Elizondo (ARG, 2006), Howard Webb (ENG, 2010) and Nicola Rizzoli (ITA, 2014).
