12 January 2019 – It seems whatever Burger King touches turns into gold. They threw their weight behind the South African U17 Men’s National Team who featured in their maiden tournament of the FIFA U17 Men’s World Cup in Chile in 2015.

Next up was Amajita (South African U20 Men’s National Team) who played at the FIFA U20 Men’s World Cup in South Korea in 2017.

The same squad has just recently qualified for the same tournament, which will take place in Poland later this year (23 May – 15 June), with the fast food corporate backing them.

Chairman of Burger King South Africa Hassen Adams has expressed pride and joy following Amajita’s remarkable feat of qualifying for back to back FIFA World Cups.

To book their place in Poland, Senong’s charges beat Burundi 1-0 in their last group stage match of the 2019 CAF U-20 AFCON, currently underway in Niger having drawn their first two games against hosts Niger and Nigeria.

“This team has done us so much proud that we keep reiterating that us coming on board to sponsor youth football has been a prudent decision for us as a brand. We would want to congratulate head coach Thabo Senong and his charges on this great and historic milestone,” said Adams.

“Since our partnership with the South African Football Association (SAFA) in 2015, we have witnessed the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup which was staged in Chile; the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup in South Korea, and now we look forward to another great FIFA World Cup tournament in Poland.”

Adams has also conveyed his well wishes to the squad ahead of their AFCON semi-final clash against Senegal on Wednesday (13 February 2019) which kicks off at 20h30 SA time.

“We would like to take this opportunity to wish Amajita all the best as they go on another crucial and important mission against Senegal tomorrow. We are confident that following the great display they have shown so far in the tournament, our boys are up to the task against any opponent,” added Adams.

“Also, we believe that as a young company on South African shores, it is our responsibility to build a sustainable future for the youth through football, and that supporting talent today means a brighter future for everyone,” Adams.

Burger King, in association with SAFA, has also held very successful U-19 Interprovincial tournaments, where many young players were spotted to represent the country.
