28 January 2019 – Sibanye FC’s title aspirations have come under threat following their 1-0 defeat to Mthatha Bucks in a top of the table clash in the Eastern Cape ABC Motsepe League.

Mthatha Bucks, who have been hot on the trails of Sibanye have now won five matches in a row and have positioned themselves as strong contenders for the title alongside Sibanye.

Both sides are now equal on 34 points with the same number of victories, draws and losses. However, a better goal difference sees Sibanye top the standings as the season draws to its closing stages.

The log leaders host second from the bottom side, Future Tigers this weekend and will be going all out for maximum points. However, Tigers are wounded from their 2-1 defeat this weekend to Amavarara and will be taking every match as a cup final to avoid the dreaded chop.

Fresh from their crucial victory this weekend, Bucks are away to eighth placed, Yaka United who have been blowing hot and cold this season. The title chasers will be looking at maintaining their impressive unbeaten run which dates back to their 2-1 loss at home to Amavarara back in September 2018.

United on the other hand will be looking at bouncing back to winning ways following their defeat to the ever-improving PE Stars this weekend who edged them 2-1 in a closely contested affair in Port Elizabeth.
