22 January 2019 – South Africa’s National Under-20 (Amajita) squad will play two friendly matches against ABC Motsepe League sides Baberwa FC and Dube Continental FC on an artificial turf on Tuesday and Wednesday ahead of their trip to Niger.

The first practice match will take place at the Nike Football Training Centre in Pimville, Soweto against Baberwa on 22 January, and then followed by an encounter against Dube Continental on the 23 January.

Both matches will kick-off at 10h30 at the very same venue.

Amajita coach Thabo Senong explained that this was because Amajita’s first two matches in the upcoming Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations tournament set to take place in Niger from 2 – 17 February; will be played on an AstroTurf.

Amajita will take on hosts Niger in their opening Group A match on 2 February, and then followed by their second group encounter against Burundi on 5 February.

Both of those two group matches will take place at Maradi Municipal stadium.

Amajita’s final group match will be played at Seyni Kounché Stadium against Nigeria on 8 February.

Senong also stated that he wishes to thank these two SAFA’s ABC Motsepe League sides for agreeing to these two practices matches, adding that these encounters will play a key part in their local camp preparations leading up to the main continental football tournament event.

A top four finish in this year’s biennial continental showpiece will see South Africa book their place in this year’s FIFA Under-20 World Cup tournament set to take place in Poland from 23 May – 15 June later in the year.
