15 January 2019 – The South African Football Association (SAFA) has released its latest fixtures for the next few months.

Kicking off what appears to be a hectic period for the national teams will be Banyana Banyana’s FIFA World Cup preparation matches taking place in Cape Town.

Fresh from an impressive showing at the recent Women’s AFCON, the Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana take on Sweden in a closed session on Thursday morning (17 January) at Athlone Stadium before facing Netherlands in the inaugural Winnie Mandela International Challenge on Saturday, 19 January at 15h00.

Banyana Banyana will then face Sweden again on 22 January for the Albertina Sisulu Centenary Challenge at 19h00. Both matches will take place at the Cape Town Stadium.

The FIFA World Cup-bound Banyana Banyana will then head to Cyprus for the annual Cyprus Cup taking place between 25 February and 6 March 2019.

Banyana Banyana will have another important friendly before they head to France when they face USA on 12 May in California where coach Desiree Ellis will be looking at fine-tuning her squad for the world showpiece.

After successfully defending their COSAFA Cup title in Zambia, the U20 Men’s national team will be aiming for a top four finish at the U20 Africa Cup of Nations taking place in Niger between 2 and 17 February. Amajita are drawn in group A with hosts, Niger, Nigeria and Burundi. The top two finishers in each group in Niger will represent Africa at the FIFA U20 Men’s World Cup in Poland between 23 May and 15 June.

Amajita have already reported for camp and will soon be heading to Mpumalanga to finalize their preparations.

Bafana Bafana resume their AFCON 2019 qualifier in a crucial encounter against Libya away from home in March. Stuart Baxter’s men just need a point to secure a place in the continental showpiece set to take place in Egypt later this year.
