11 January 2019 – The Limpopo ABC Motsepe League resumed on Thursday, 10 January 2019 after a Christmas break with Mikhado missing out on a chance to temporarily go to the top of the table as Polokwane Academy held them to a 1-1 draw at Seshego.

With league leaders, Polokwane Unitedf ixture to play 24 hours later against  Great North, Mikhado were given a chance to top the table but suffered a setback.

However, a point was enough to move Mikhado up from third to second place on the league table as it took them to 16 points, level with Berachah Valley who dropped from second to third as a result of their inferior goals scored tally to Mikhado’s.

The match started off a bit slow, although expected from two teams playing their first competitive games in four weeks. Either side failed to make an impact in the early stages of the first half. However, ten minutes to half time, striker Khaukanani Eethe broke the deadlock after some beautiful work down the right-wing gifted him an easy tap-in.

The second half was all Mikhado – Ikwasha Fhedzi got a late equalising goal from striker Rendani Thavhana with a moment of magic. A superb bicycle kick from outside the box was perfectly executed to find the back of the net.

Mikhado’s head coach Abel Makhubela praised his charge’s mental strength after the game.

“We conceded first which then forced us to chase the game, thankfully our boys showed a strong rebounding mentality,” said Makhubela.

“Polokwane Academy is a strong, well-balanced team and for our boys to get a point in their backyard is a good result. I think both teams deserved to win it so I guess a draw is a fair result”
