7 January 2019 – Baberwa FC are well on track to being crowned Gauteng champions in this year’s ABC Motsepe League season. The club currently occupies top spot, just a point above second placed, JDR Stars but have the advantage of a game in hand.

Baberwa ensured they keep their number one spot in the last round of fixtures before the festive break when they edged a spirited Tembisa Sports Centre 1-0 away from home. Their closest contenders, JDR also registered an important away win to keep pressure on the log leaders with when they overcame Dondol Stars 2-0.

Soweto’s Dube Continental continued with their fine form this season when they played host to XI Experience in their last fixture before the break which they comfortably won 2-0.

The Gauteng action resumes this coming Saturday, 12 January where all 16 teams will be in action for the first time this year.

Experience will be hoping to put their defeat against Dube Continental behind their backs and focus on moving away from the dreaded dagger when they welcome seventh placed M-Tigers.

JDR face the unpredictable African All Stars who are 11th on the log while log leaders Baberwa will be looking at stretching their lead at the top when they face Vaal Professionals. Baberwa will need to strike a delicate balance in their squad as they face off against Pele Pele on Wednesday, 16 January in another crucial encounter.
