4 January 2019 – Snake Park Chillers will face LNB Tax FC in the first semi-final (09h00) of the 2018/19 KwaMahlobo Festive Games, with Mathaithai FC going toe to toe against Shake It Everyday in the second semifinal (11h00).

The winners will then lock horns in the final (15h30) in Meadowlands Zone 10, Soweto.

All three matches will be played on Saturday, 5 January 2019.

The semi-finalists did not have it easy to progress to the last four – and penalty shootouts were needed to separate teams in three of the four games.

Only Mathaithai managed to win outright against Ngulube FC in the second match of the Day 15 – but they were made to sweat for their 1-0 success.

In the first fixture, Shake It Everyday and Galacticos could not find the net during the allotted 90 minutes, but the former booked their place in the semi-final after a 4-3 win victory on penalties.

The star-studded LNB Tax FC also struggled against a stubborn A To Z, but was able to get the better of them 4-2 on penalties after the match ended goalless in regulation time.

Dubbed the Final before the Final, the clash between Soweto Super United and Snake Park Chillers lived up to expectation.

The highly-charged match, charaterised by a lot of flying tackles, was end to end stuff and had all the hallmarks of a final, with the crowd enjoying every minute of it.

SSU scored in the first half before Chillers equalised just a few minutes before the final whistle.

In the end, the latter triumphed 6-5 on penalties.

The encounter was watched by, amongst others, Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana player, Sibusiso Vilakazi, Head coach of the South African U-20 Men’s National Team, Thabo Senong, goalkeeper coach of the South African U-17 Women’s National Team, Monde Hlatshwayo and Supersport football commentator, Baba Mthethwa.

With the defending champions knocked out in the last 16, there will be a new name on the trophy after the final.

The losing semi-finalists will each walk away with R15-thousand rand.

The runners up will get R50-thousand rand, while winners will pocket R120-thousand rand.

The festive season tournament kicked off on Wednesday, 19 December with 40 teams – and now only four remain.
