1 January 2019 – The top 16 teams at the 2018-19 KwaMahlobo Games have been decided.
A total of 40 teams started the tournament, now only 16 remain after the top two teams in each of the eight groups qualified for the next round.
Group A (Galacticos, Meadowlands All Stars); Group B (Meadowlands Juventus, Snake Park Chillers); Group C (Umswenko FC, Soweto Super United); Group D (Ngulube FC, Gama United FC); Group E (Amajananda FC, A to Z); Group F (Shake It Everyday); Group G (Izinja zeGame, LNB Tax FC) and Group H (Vilakazi Football Academy, Meadowlands Academy) have all made it past the round robin phase.
After 80 matches in the group stages, played over 12 days, 201 goals were scored in the tournament that kicked off on Wednesday, 19 December 2018.
The teams took a break on New Year’s Day (1 January) and the Top 16 action resumes on Wednesday (3 January) and will be completed on Thursday (4 January). In the event of a stalemate after the regulated 90 minutes, a penalty shootout will be used to decide the winner – there will be no extra time played.
A draw will take place after the last matches to determine the fixtures for the Top 8, which will be played on Friday, 4 January.
The semi-finals and the final will be held on the same day – Saturday, 5 January 2019.
The top four contest will take place in the morning (09h00 and 11h00), while the battle for gold will be at 15h00 at the KwaMahlobo grounds in Meadowlands Zone 10.
