9 December 2018 – Captain of the Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana, Janine van Wyk, says they have been drawn in a very interesting group in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, but is also relieved that they managed to avoid the host nation France. South African is in Group B alongside Spain, China PR and Germany and Van Wyk adds that playing against such good opposition also brings out the best of Banyana Banyana and they will have to step up to get out of the group.

South Africa has never met both Spain and Germany, while they played against China PR in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

The World Cup runs from 7 June to 7 July.
