4 December 2018 – South Africa’s national Under-20 (Amajita) coach Thabo Senong expressed his delight over his charges’ performance against Mauritius in their first COSAFA U-20 Championship Group B match, saying that they outdone themselves.

Amajita subjected Mauritius to a humiliating 5-0 defeat, with Promise Mkhuma walking away with the man of the match accolade following his stellar performance which helped his team shine up in the final third.

Senong added that though he was pleased with the outcome of that game, he and his charges now need to shift their focus to their remaining Group B fixture.

The COSAFA defending champions will now play eSwatini on 8 December 2018 at Nkana Stadium at 13h00.

“I must say well done to the boys for producing this result,” Senong said. “They stuck to the game plan from the beginning to end. First games of any tournament are always difficult, however, our boys applied themselves really well”

“Mauritius were very good in defending set plays, hence we did not score a single goal from the ones we got. Our combination plays helped us to win this match and our focus is now set on our second group match against eSwatini which will be played on 8 December 2018.”

Senong added that he was expecting a very tough battle against eSwatini. However, expressed that they will do everything in their power to win that match.

“I would not say that we are already through into the semis because eSwatini is another side we will have to fight against in pursuit for a good result,” Senong said. “They had a longer preparation camp compared to us and we just have to be ready for them”
