3 December 2018 – The Minister of Sport and Recreation SA, Tokozile Xasa on Monday hosted a breakfast for the FIFA World Cup-bound Banyana Banyana in Kempton Park in the East Rand.

The breakfast was attended by SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan and some senior members of his National Executive Committee who included Vice-President Ria Ledwaba, Ms Emma Hendricks who was the HOD for the team that finished runners up in Ghana.

Also at the breakfast was Mr Mzwandile Maforvane and Gerald Don as well as senior members of sponsors Sasol.

 


 

Banyana Banyana finished runners up to Nigeria after losing 4-3 in the dreaded penalty shootout after the match had ended 0-0 in regulation time including 30 minutes of extra time.

The Desiree Ellis-coached side arrived to a thunderous hero’s welcome at OR Tambo International Airport on Sunday, 2 December 2018 where they were met by among others the Ministers of Sport, MEC Faith Mazibuko, SAFA President and several NEC members.

Coach Ellis and her delegation leaves for France on Thursday, 6 December 2018 for the FIFA Women’s World Cup draw which takes place on Saturday, 8 December 2018.

Banyana Banyana together with Nigeria and Cameroon are the African representatives for the showpiece scheduled for France next year.
