30 November 2018–South Africa’s National Under-20 (Amajita) head coach Thabo Senong has named the 20-man squad that is to travel to Kitwe, Zambia for the upcoming COSAFA Under-20 Championship.
The tournament will run from 2 – 14 December 2018.
The COSAFA defending champions are in Group B, and will face Mauritius, Namibia and eSwatini in their group matches, in pursuit of reaching the knockout stages of the tournament.
They play their first match on 3 December 2018 against Mauritius.
Senong admitted earlier this week that they go into this tournament knowing very well that every side they will be playing against; will be driven to fight for a point or three against them.
The coach, however, stated that they go into this tournament with every intention to compete as well.
“We are now just three months away from the Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations which will run from 2–17 February 2019 in Niger next year,” Senong said. “This tournament falls under our preparation plan for that crucial continental showpiece because as you know, top four teams in that tournament will automatically qualify for 2019 FIFA World Cup which will take place in Poland. Competing to our utmost best in this COSAFA Championship, will play a part in helping us to get ready for the biennial showpiece.”
Amajita will fly out to Kitwe this coming Saturday (1 December 2018) at 10am.
