26 November 2018 – Umvoti FC progressed to this season’s Nedbank Cup last 32 after beating Orbit College FC 3-1 in the Nedbank Cup Mini playoff matchup which took place at Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium on Saturday, 23 November.

The KwaZulu-Natal based outfit came from a goal behind which they had conceded in the 55thminute to force matters to go into extra time, following a superb equalizer from brace scorer Bonginkosi Nyembe in the 85thminute.

Nyembe scored his second of the match just six minutes into the first half of extra time, with teammate Thobani Mthembu adding the final nail into the opposition’s coffin in referee’s optional time.

Umvoti FC coach Kabelo Sibiya, who only had a few days to prepare his team following his appointment as the club’s new head coach, said he was pleased with how his charges handled themselves that encounter.

“I only started working with this team this past Monday,” Sibiya said. “This means I only had three days to work with them and I am glad with how they responded on the pitch. They showed great character out there and fought for one another as well. Credit must also go to my technical staff as well. They made it really made it easy for me to settle in and I could not have done it without them.”
