23 November 2018 – South Africa’s Ambassador to Ghana, the Honourable Ms. Lulu Xingwana, who has been a regular at Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana’s matches at the 2018 Women’s AFCON in Ghana, paid the Senior Women’s National Team a visit at their base hotel in Accra.

Since the arrival of the squad in Ghana, Ms. Xingwana has been seen at the matches Banyana Banyana playeed.

She says the squad has been good ambassadors for South Africa.

“I have been meaning to pay you an official visit but due to work commitments I have been unable to, even though we have been seeing each other at your matches. I came here today to wish you all the best. You have been a good advertisement for South African Football, not only that, but also you have been good ambassadors of our country, “ said the Ambassador.

“The people around here hold you in high esteem and you have left a lasting impression on them. I am going to write a letter to the President of South Africa His Excellency, Cyril Ramaphosa, as well as the President of SAFA Dr Danny Jordaan to tell them just how exemplary South Africans citizens you have been.

Banyana Banyana face Zambia in the final match of the group stages – where a draw will be enough to see them join Mali and Cameroon in the semifinals.

“You have been doing very well up to this point since your arrival in Ghana, now you are facing our neighbours Zambia in your next match, continue with the good work that you started. Go out there and do the best you can to get to the promised land of qualifying for the World Cup. And I don’t need to tell you how much the whole of South Africa is behind you, you are all well aware. Good luck,” added Ms. Xingwana.

Banyana Banyana are on six points, three ahead of both Nigeria and Zambia, while Equatorial Guinea is yet to collect points and are out of contention for the next round.

Equatorial Guinea take will lock horns with Nigeria in the other Group B match at the Cape Coast Stadium.

South Africa and Zambia go toe to toe at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Both matches kick off at 16h00 local time (18h00 SA time).
