23 November 2018 – South Africa’s National Under-20 (Amajita) head coach Thabo Senong has called up 28 players for his provisional squad building up to this year’s COSAFA Under-20 Championship set to take place in Kitwe, Zambia.
Senong, who served as a Technical Advisor in South Africa’s National Under-17 Women squad’s campaign in this year’s FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup tournament, said this camp will give him a clear indication on which players to keep in his traveling squad.
The Southern regional football tournament will run from 2 – 14 December 2018, with Amajita reporting for camp this Friday (23 November 2018) to start off with their preparations.
The COSAFA Under-20 defending champions are in Group B; and will lock horns with Namibia, Mauritius and Swaziland in pursuit of reaching this year’s tournament final.
“We are going to treat this tournament with the utmost respect,” Senong said. “Every game is very important for us and we cannot afford to disrespect any sides we will be playing against. Our focus is also set on next year’s Africa Under-20 AFCON tournament in Niger.
That biennial continental showpiece will also serve as a qualifier for the FIFA Under-20 World Cup scheduled to take place in Poland.
“We really need to be ready for it. That is why we have to do well in this tournament. The COSAFA Championship also falls under our preparation plan building up to the continental showdown” concluded Senong
