20 November 2018 – SAFA Cape Town is mourning the passing away of honorary member and former President, Errol Burgers (pictured) who passed away on Tuesday morning at Christian Barnard Memorial hospital after suffering from stroke last week.

He was 71.

Mr Burgers served as President of Northern Suburbs LFA and on the Western Province Football Board. He was a NSFA Life Member since 2010 and was still an active member.

During his tenure he also guided NSFA through its amalgamation period that laid the foundation for a smooth transition.

His etiquetteand protocols are still being implemented in the NSFA Executive and Council Meetings and was still a great believer of awarding colours which must be worn with pride.  He served as NSFA President from 1991-2009.

He was also recently awarded a Life Time Achievement Award by the Region in 2016, thereafter in 2017 the Congress bestowed him Honorary Membership and in 2018 he was awarded a Life Time Achiever Award by the Cape Town Sport Council for his incredible contribution to the code.

SAFA President, Dr Danny Jordaan said losing Mr Burgers was huge body blow for the football family.

He was a larger than life character and will be sorely missed by the football family. May his soul rest in peace,” said Dr Jordaan.
