19 November 2018 – An interesting race is currently taking place in the Mpumalanga ABC Motsepe League as clubs battle it out for a place in next season’s National First Division. After 10 rounds, league favourites Acornbush are leading the pack with 23 points, two points above Barbeton City Stars who are doing well this season.
Acornbush were however held to a thrilling 2-all draw this past weekend when they visited Lumoja FC. The draw sees them dropping two valuable points, with City Stars hot on their trail following their hard fought 2-1 win over Secunda M Stars at home.
The log leaders have fought hard in recent ties. Preceding their 2-2 draw was a difficult 1-0 win over Mlambo Royal Cubs which could have went either way. However, a 4-0 thrashing of Nkomazi Real Aces saw the log leaders firing a warning shot to any title contenders this season.
The fixture against Gembok Classic FC this Sunday should be a comfortable outing for the log leaders who could stretch their lead by five points should City Stars drop points in their fixture against the confident Mlambo Royal Eagles.
Other interesting encounters to look forward to in Mpumalanga this weekend include Lumoja taking on third placed FC Zone Mavo while Bushbuckridge Bohlabela United take on Tjakastaad Junior Sheppards FC.
