8 November 2018 – First time finalists Boyne Tigers take on the most successful Limpopo SAB League team in the Nedbank Cup, Mariveni United at the Nkowankowa Stadium on Sunday, 11 November at 15h00.

After more than 50 matches of the Nedbank Cup preliminary games in the Limpopo province, it all comes down to b Mariveni United and Boyne Tigers.

The provincial final is contested by the SAB League inter-regional playoffs winner and an ABC Motsepe League winner to determine who will qualify for the Nedbank Cup last 32 to be drawn against PSL and NFD teams and other provincial winners.

Mariveni United, the SAB League team from the Mariveni village will be searching for their third successive victory in the provincial finals and book a spot in the last 32, a stage they have never managed to get past.

The first time they reached the last 32 was at the expense of Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila whom they defeated 1-0 at the Nkowankowa Stadium in the 2016/2017 season before Mamelodi Sundowns ended their fairytale run.

Two quick-fire double by Leonardo Castro and Anthony Laffor where enough for the then South African and African Champions to proceed to the next round.

A year later, Mariveni United defeated another Limpopo ABC Motsepe League, Molemole Academy 2-0 at the Nkowankowa Stadium again.

Boyne Tigers reached the provincial final after seeing off the reigning Limpopo ABC Motsepe League and SAFA Limpopo VW Challenge champions The Dolphins FC, 4-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes.

Mariveni’s journey to this season’s provincial finals was the longer of the two teams. They have already played nine games in this competition compared to Tigers’ four, including three games in a single day at the inter-regional finals in Modimolle on Saturday, 3 November.
