31 October 2018 – Competing in the rigours of the Umgungundlovu region (Stream B), Movers FC have made a decent start to their season and are already looking to move up the log as quickly as possible in SAFA’s Regional U21 SAB League.
The team have two wins from their first three matches and sit comfortably in the top four of the log with a goal difference of +3.
Having only been formed a few years ago by current coach and chairman Mr Wonder Zuma, the club have made steady progress. The year 2016 saw the team take third place while making it all the way to the play-offs in Vryheid last season. Movers are hoping to go one better this time around and gain promotion.
SAFA.net managed to catch up with first-team goalkeeper Thando Radebe who provided some insight into the club’s fortunes, aims, success and the art of goalkeeping.
“The season has just begun but we are excited about what lies ahead and are positive,” said Radebe.
Talking about the keys to success, the keeper believes it is a combination of factors that eventually leads to success.
“Discipline is the key but also respect for each other. We are like brothers. We travel together, train together and win or lose together. You also need to enjoy the game. That is actually the most important part. Luck also plays a part” he said.
Chatting about the team’s tactics and strategy, Radebe said the boys like to keep it simple but have the edge over other teams with their unique style of play.
“We play short-passing football and this obviously means more possession. The coach has instilled this strategy into the players and it seems to be working. We only play long balls if the need arises. Opposition clubs struggle with this method as we have mastered it now. Fans also seem to enjoy watching it,” stated the keeper.
Radebe also talked about team personnel and some of the stars to look out for.
“In pre-season we had over 30 players but this was cut to around 20. The likes of Sboniso Nqayi and skipper Sibusiso Mnikathi, who are both midfielders, are rare gems and make this team stand out,” enthused Radebe.
The club are aiming to make it all the way to the ABC Motsepe League next season which is all they are focusing on right now and not getting too far ahead of themselves.
As far as the art of goalkeeping is concerned, Radebe himself is a bright young star and is working hard on his craft.
“The key is to be alert and good with your feet. The rest follows from there. I try to double as an infield player as well to help my defence out when I can,” concluded Radebe.
The team are next in action away from home on Sunday 4 November against Dream Team FC in Appelsboch at 13h00.
