25 October 2018 – For football fanatics in the Mopani Region, it’s that time of the year where one of the most exciting SAB league’s in the Limpopo province begins. There will be new clubs, new players and plenty of exciting football on the cards.

The Mopani SAB League is a seven-month long journey to the province’s top-flight league, the Limpopo ABC Motsepe League.

The new season was initially scheduled to kick-off on 20 October but was postponed to a week later due to the Nedbank Cup preliminary games which Mariveni United successfully earned the rights to represent the region for the third season running.

The 2018/19 season will also see the number of streams in the Mopani SAB League doubled from two and the number of teams rising from 38 to 60 in the hope of trying to cut team’s expenses by reducing their travelling distance in a season.

The Mopani region is set to have a new champion at the end of this season following Baobab Zero Fake’s successful campaign in the provincial playoffs on home soil. They finished second in a mini-league tournament of five teams with the top two finishers guaranteed a spot in the 2018/19 Limpopo ABC Motsepe League season.

Last season’s beaten regional playoffs finalists and Stream A champions who now falls under newly-formed Stream C, Jackson Young Stars gets their season up and running with a visit to Gaza Black Rovers.

New Makoti Happy Fighters boss Peace Khoza, who won the last two Mopani SAB League titles with Nkowankowa Barcelona and Zero Fake respectively is presented with a tough start with a home tie against Mopani Panthers FC for a Stream B opener.

Mariveni United will be looking to transfer their amazing cup games performances to the Mopani SAB League and hopefully, earn promotion to the Limpopo ABC Motsepe League. They kick off their season with a visit to Julesburg Young Killers FC.
