16 October 2018– South Africa’s national under-17 (Bantwana) head coach, Simphiwe Dludlu, has called up 26 players to report for camp building up to this year’s FIFA Women’s Under-17 World Cup set to take place in Uruguay.
The national junior side will be based in Johannesburg from 17 – 26 October 2018 before they travel to Uruguay the following day (27 October 2018) for the main football event.
Upon their arrival there, Bantwana will face both Mexico and hosts Uruguay in friendly matchups as part of their final preparations for the global showpiece set to run from 13 November to 1 December 2018.
They will face Mexico on 1 November and Uruguay on 5 November 2018 before the tournament kicks off.
Coach Dludlu stated that she will use this upcoming camp to decide on which 21 players will she be travelling with to the Hispanic country.
“This upcoming camp is going to give us a perfect opportunity to have a good look at our players before we travel there (Uruguay),” Dludlu said. “We can only take 21 players, and this then means there are few players who are going to be cut. We will play two friendly matches upon our arrival in Uruguay, and I believe that those matchups will play a key role in seeing us doing well in the main event.”
Bantwana are in Group B and will face Mexico, Japan and Brazil in pursuit of reaching the knockout stages of the tournament.
