8 October 2018 – SAFA’s acting CEO, Russell Paul has wished speedy recovery to the bus driver of the Cape District Football Association (CDFA) following an accident with a light vehicle while driving the team to a junior tournament in Kimberly on Friday, 5 October 2018.

The accident took place on the N12 while the team was driving from the team hotel to the match venue.

Fortunately, no player or members of the technical staff were injured – only the bus driver sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby Hospital in Kimberly for further medical assessment.

However, the driver of the light vehicle passed away on the spot.

“We are indeed shocked to have learnt of the bus accident involving members of the Cape District Football Association this past weekend,” Paul said. “It is with sadness that we learnt that the driver of the light vehicle that crashed into the bus with CDFA team lost his life. On behalf of SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan and the entire football family, I would like to offer our condolences to the deceased’s family.”

Added the acting CEO: “We are, however, relieved that all the occupants in the bus (CDFA members and drivers) are well, with the driver the only to suffer injuries – but appears to be recovering well. We also wish him (the driver) speedy recovery,” Paul said.
