8 October 2018 – The Gauteng ABC Motsepe League is in full swing with Baberwa FC and Alexandra United leading the pack in the early stages of the season. Sitting at the summit of the table is Baberwa who increased their points tally to 10 following their 2-0 victory at home to African All Stars last Friday.
The log leaders who recently announced former Kaizer Chiefs star, Mthokozisi Yende as their new acquisition have been in fine form in the early stages of this season, winning three and drawing just one.
Hot on Baberwa’s heels is Alexandra United who are in equally great form this season but missed out on an opportunity to go top of the table when they were held to a 2-2 draw at home by a stubborn Swallows FC this past weekend.
It was clearly not a great weekend for Alexandra football as Alexandra Black Aces were also edged 3-2 by Soweto’s Dube Continental. This was Aces’ third loss of the season which sees them rooted at the bottom of the log with just a single point from their draw against Pretoria Callies in their season opener.
A lot of changes at the top are expected this weekend with some crucial fixtures taking place for the two log leaders. Baberwa travel to Soweto to face the high in confidence Dube Continental while the unpredictable Pele Pele FCwelcomes Alexandra United.
There will be some midweek action on Wednesday, 10 October when Dube Continental host fellow Soweto rivals, Swallows FC in what promises to be an evenly balanced affair.
Pretoria Callies will be hoping to pick up their first win of the season when they take on Leruma United on the same day. Both midweek matches kick off at 15h00.
