05 October 2018 – Eastern Cape progressed to this year’s SAFA U-19 Women’s Regional League Championship final after beating tournament favourites, the Western Cape, 1-0 in the final four of the tournament at the Nike Football Training Centre in Pimville, Soweto on Friday.

Zandiswa Speelman’s solitary goal converted from a spot kick early on in the match, saw the Eastern Cape side book their place into this year’s inter-provincial women’s tournament final.

Eastern Cape will now face Mpumalanga, who beat a Gauteng side 2-1 in their semi-final match-up.

In their encounter against the Eastern Cape, the Western Cape outfit could have pushed proceedings towards penalties after they were awarded a late penalty in the final minute of the match.

It was striker Chelsea Daniels, however, who failed to convert that chance as the opposition goalkeeper kept her shot at bay to help her side hold on to their lead.

The Western Cape will now face Gauteng in pursuit of a third place finish in a match-up which will serve as a curtain raiser for Saturday’s final between the Eastern Cape and Mpumalanga.
