04 October 2018 – Clapham High School (Gauteng) cruised to the final of the 2018 Sanlam Kay Motsepe Schools Cup at national level after hammering Sibanesihle (KZN) by 4-0 in the first semi-final on Thursday. In the other semi, John Ramsay (Western Cape) beat School of Excellence (Gauteng) 4-2 in a penalty-shootout after the match finished goalless in regulation time.

Clapham, who have won the tournament on three occasions already, will contest in the final tomorrow, Friday, against first-time finalists Ramsay, at 11am at TUT Stadium in Pretoria-West campus.

Clapham broke the deadlock as early as the fifth minute as Likhanyile Ndlendle pounced on a loose ball that was misjudged by goalkeeper Ayanda Mbatha.

Midway through the first half, forward Cassius Mailula doubled his team’s tally after being teamed up by Tlotlego Pitso. Mailula,under-pressure, calmly controlled the ball before turning his marker and slotting past Mbatha.

Early into the second stanza, coach Michael Manzini’s charges were back at it, as Ndlendle got his second of the game.

Soon after that, Mailula  registered his brace with a calm finish from close-range after being set-up by Ndlendle.

Meanwhile, 10-man Ramsay, who lost skipper Lee Cloete in the second half after getting his marching orders after two bookable offenses, had the upper hand against School of Excellence, but their finishing let them down.

The game went to penalties and the Capetonian-based team ensured that they made up for their misfortunes earlier, as they only missed one of their five spot-kicks.
