25 September 2018 – United Rovers and Magareng Young Stars saw off stiff resistance from Colville United and Maruping United FC on Saturday, 22 September to continue setting an early pace at the top of the Northern Cape ABC Motsepe League Stream B with two wins from two games.

Rovers’ opening day 3-1 win over Kuruman Kicks was followed by a hard-fought 3-2 victory against Colville at the De Aar West Sports Ground.

Despite managing to score three goals in each of their first two league games this season, Rovers are yet to keep a clean sheet and have already conceded three goals.

“It always helps when we’re winning, scoring goals and keeping clean sheets. Unfortunately, that’s not the case with us for now, we’ve conceded what appears to me as three soft goals. We will put much of our focus at training this week on finding solutions to that.” said Rovers’ Assistant Coach Floors Arnold on his team’s failure to keep clean sheets.

While Rovers were expected to challenge champions Magareng Young Stars for the title having finished second last season only on goal difference, many expected the champions to stroll past the newly promoted Kuruman-based Maruping United.

Magareng survived a late scare after squandering a two-goal lead allowing Maruping back into the game but were fortunate enough to walk away with maximum points, they were forced to settle for a late three-points clinching goal.

NC Liverpool handed Kuruman Kicks their second defeat in as many games whilst earning their first victory of the campaign in the process. Olifantshoek also grabbed their first points of the season with their 3-2 win at home.
