14 September 2018 – New Alexandra Black Aces FC General Manager, Mr Gordon Masondo has big plans for the club.

Masondo is the former CEO of Lamontville Golden Arrows, manager of the old Mpumalanga Black Aces Football Club before being sold off, as well as former United FC GM, with whom he won this particular division.

MySAFA managed to have a chat with the Masondo who brings a certain amount of pedigree to the ‘Gold City Giants’ and get his views on the upcoming season, which kicks off this coming Saturday.

“I was roped in at the end of March to instigate change, evaluate players and overhaul certain systems. I managed to retain eleven great players while also roping in some former Premier Soccer League stars. Such acquisitions augur well for the club,” enthused Masondo.

The likes of former Arrows winger Vuyani Ntanga, defender Tsietsi Mahoa and Ace Bhengu will add some much needed depth to the squad.

Talking about the clubs short-term and long-term goals, it is obvious that Masondo means business.

“My initial goal is obviously to gain promotion. We are not here to just make up the numbers. We then wish to do well in the National First Division and compete in the PSL, which is the ultimate goal for any team. However, we plan to take it one step at a time and not get too far ahead of ourselves,” said Masondo.

The cool, calm and collected Aces boss cuts a relaxed figure and won’t allow any unnecessary stress to affect his duties at hand, as he aims to take the club to greater heights.

“Having done well in this league before, I don’t feel too much pressure. The key aspect is to do things by the book, purchase the right players, pay them well and ultimately support them. The former PSL boys are big names and are willing to help us so we must reciprocate too. I think this is the key to success,” stated a confident Masondo.

The GM also offered his thoughts on the opening game this Saturday against Pretoria Callies at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

“Look, we are aiming for maximum points but they are a great team and we are expecting a sticky ride. The entire league is filled with tough teams. Dondol Stars and Swallows seem to have bought really well so we will have to up our game. It should be fireworks and I urge the fans to come and support us,” concluded Masondo.
