12 September 2018 – UWC Ladies head coach Nathan Peskin said his team is not focused on winning the Sasol League Western Cape – Stream B title but more focused on winning all their remaining league games.

UWC hammered Ikamva United 12-2 at UWC Sports Ground for their eighth win of the season out of nine games and the result extended their lead at the top to five points after second-placed Vasco da Gama failed to beat Dangerous Heroes at home with the game ending in a 1-1 draw.

“We are not thinking about the title,” said Peskin. “We still have a long way to go so title talks make no sense at this stage.”

“Once you start talking about winning the title with five more games to go, complacency might start to creep into the camp, and that’s my job as a coach, to safeguard everyone within the team from complacency.

“We are taking it one game at a time, we are just going to try and win all our remaining league games and if that’s enough for us to be crowned as champions then that’s a bonus for us,” added Peskin.

UWC will be on the road this weekend to Browns Farm to face Heroes who boast one of the most impressive home-record this season. Heroes only lost one league game at home this season and that was their season opener back on June 15.

“It’s always a tough game when we meet Heroes, even more so at their own turf. Don’t be gulled by our 4-0 first round win, the game was one of our toughest games to date and I expect an even tougher one on Friday.”

Four wins in their remaining five games will guarantee UWC a playoff spot in the Sasol League Westen Cape provincial playoffs against Stream A winners. RV United are currently leading Stream A with 21 points with Cape Town Roses hot on their heels on second place and only two points behind them.
