17 August 2018 – In what was undoubtedly a game of settling old scores, the NWU faced off against Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) on Thursday night, in an epic televised clash that saw TUT put an unwanted stain on the NWU record of three wins from three, losing 1-0.
Scores
NWU: 0
TUT: 1
Goal: Siphamandla Zanekile (TUT)
FNB Player of the Match: Tebogo Mokgobo (NWU)
Debonairs Real Deal Save: Sikhumbuzo Ncube (TUT)
Samsung Moment of Brilliance: Siphamandla Zanekile (TUT)
Following a thrilling first 80 minutes with little between the two unbeaten sides, it was with just 10 minutes remaining that TUT saw a gap in NWU’s defence and did what any good competitor would and scored the winning goal through a towering header by Siphamandla Zanekile.
Although the NWU may have lost their first match after an impressive collection of victories, the purple wave is united in their collective pursuit of emerging as the tournament victors.
“We played a good game,” said NWU coach Monde Hlatshwayo. “We gave it our all and it isn’t a train smash that the results are not what we hoped for. We won’t win every game and that’s what makes us hungrier. We are going back to the drawing board.”
