17 August 2018 – Phomolong Ladies are currently leading the pack and well on course to qualifying for the Gauteng Sasol League as they dominate the Ekurhuleni Women’s Regional League with just five games of the season remaining.
Phomolong top the standings with 37 points, five clear of United Birds Ladies who can’t be written off just yet as they are still within reach of the log leaders.
United Birds were ruthless in front of goal last weekend as the hammered a hapless Mighty Lovers Ladies 8-0 to keep the pressure on the log leaders who eased past Tigers Ladies 4-0 to maintain the gap.
Mathematically, Kempton Park Ladies and Khathorus United still stand a chance of finishing top but realistically, it would take a miracle for the top two clubs to lose all their five remaining matches.
Looking further down in the relegation dog fight, VUT Ekurhuleni languish at the bottom of the log with a single victory from 13 outings with the other matches being losses. Just on top of them with six points is Motshana Ladies FCwho also have a game less and will be hoping to secure maximum results this weekend when they travel to Daveyton to face Etwatwa Ladies in a must win clash.
