13 August 2018 – It was the travelling teams’ weekend in the opening fixtures of the Western Cape ABC Motsepe League as the season got off to a flying start with the travellers getting valuable points away from home.
The Western Cape ABC Motsepe League season got underway on Friday, 10 August as Ajax Cape Town played host to The Magic who did the unthinkable as they emerged 4-1 winners away from home to shock the hosts.
The action continued the following day when Grassy Park United were thrashed 4-0 in their own backyard by HBU FC who shot straight to the top of the table with that result. Santos FC kicked off their campaign against Battalions FC and easily brushed them aside with a 2-0 victory while Zizwe United fought hard for a slim 1-0 victory over Mbekweni Cosmos FC.
There was a four-goal thriller when Morning Stars and Steenberg United held each other to a highly entertaining 2-2 draw while Glendene United and Ikapa Sporting also shared the spoils in an evenly balanced 1-1 draw.
