2 August 2018 – Two crucial victories in a tight fixture week have seen JVW FC move to second position in the Gauteng Sasol League and well in place to challenge log leaders, TUT and reigning champions, Mamelodi Sundowns for league honours.

JVW are aiming to reclaim the number one spot their held two years ago when they won the championship, and should they carry on with the same form for the remainder of the season, the could see that happening.

The Alberton based club, who have two of their products plying their trade in the US (Janine Van Wyk & Linda Motlhalo) had two back to back fixtures which they overcame to move closer to the number one spot currently held by TUT.

A hard fought 2-1 win over Soweto Fabulous on Saturday, 28 July followed by a 6-0 thrashing of Springs Home Sweepers sees just six points behind the log leaders. Speaking after their convincing win over Sweepers, JVW midfielder, Indira Albuquerque said even though they were a bit fatigued by the back to back fixtures, the team did well to get the two victories in a tight space of time.

“We had a really great game. We held up a good performance bearing in mind that we played two games in one week. Some of our players were a bit fatigued but all in all we played well. We got the six points throughout the weekend. Our opponents came our really strong, but we held our own and even managed to score six goals”

“Being back on the scoresheet is a big boost of confidence” added the hard-working midfielder.

JVW have a tough away encounter against Palace Super Falcons this weekend and will be hoping to carry on from where they left off.
