30 July 2018 – The South African Football Association’s vigorous search for talent to form part of the various women’s national team made its way to Alice in the Eastern Cape on Sunday, 29 July.
The Association in partnership with the Department of Sport and Recreation has been on an extensive search for new talent in an effort to increase the pool of players to select from for the various women’s national teams.
With hundreds of aspiring young women footballers coming out in their numbers, Banyana head coach, Desiree Ellis and High-Performance Centre coach Sheryl Botes, goalkeeper coach Alejandro Heredia were in attendance to hand pick the raw talent while Provincial Technical officers Douleen Witbooi and Desmond Lewis supported the coaches and will carry the important task of monitoring the successful candidates.
“Once we have reselected in Western Cape next weekend -due to previous poor weather conditions all candidates identified in the nine Provinces will be assessed by National coaches for inclusion in trials for the three women’s National teams” said HOD of Women’s Football Fran Hilton-Smith.
With Banyana Banyana having qualified for AFCON and the U17 Girl’s national team (Bantwana) headed to the FIFA World Cup, the Association aims at maintaining the success shown by the women’s national teams.
