FIFA World Cup-bound Bantwana won bronze at the recently ended BRICS tournament that took place at Wits Rugby Stadium.

The week-long tournament saw Brazil winning gold while China came second to grab silver.

South Africa’s u17 Women’s National Team, Bantwana who played three games in three days, came third to win bronze.

Bantwana started their preparations with a thumping 8-2 win over a visiting USA Select side Goal For Girls before starting the BRICS tournament with another convincing 5-1 win over India on Wednesday, 18 July 2018. They then played to a goalless draw with Brazil the following day before going down 2-1 to China on Friday having played non-stop football in successive days.

They then played to a 2-2 draw with Russia on Sunday, 22 July to seal a third place finish.

The Simphiwe Dludlu coached side is headed for the FIFA World Cup in Uruguay later this year where among their opponents are Brazil.
