9 June 2018 – Maccabi FC are this year’s ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs champions after beating TS Sporting FC 5-4 on penalties.
The Gauteng-based outfit walk away with R1 million prize money, while TS Sporting get R500 000 for being runners-up of this tournament. In this matchup, TS Sporting where the first ones to register a goal through William Nkosi, who converted a beauty of a header inside the box to beat the opposition ’keeper.
However, Maccabi came back with more fight in their play from the halftime break, pressing their opponents in the final third in search for an equalizer.
That goal came in the 74 minute when super-sub Collins Mbesuma scored with a powerful shot inside the 18yard box to give his side a fighting chance.
Meanwhile, TS Sporting player Akani Chauke, walked away with R100 thousand for being Player of the Tournament, while Motha (Maccabi FC), Dikotso Mabaleng (Mangaung Unite) and Thobani Mthembu (Umvoti FC) scooped the top goal-scorers of the tournament accolade, after scoring three goals each in this year’s tournament.
These three top goal-scorers will share the R100 000 prize money, each getting a fair share from that amount.
