8 June 2018 – Nine Vhembe SAB League teams are set to compete at the Vhembe SAB League Champ-of-Champs which kicks off tomorrow, Saturday 9 June, for the right to represent Vhembe region in the 2018 SAB League Provincial Promotional Playoffs.

Winners of the nine Vhembe SAB League streams have been drawn into three groups of three teams each. The draw produced some exciting fixtures.

Many fans have labelled Group B as the “group of death”, consisting of Stream B winners Mukula Young SantosUnited Artists and the Vhembe SAB League powerhouse Mpheni Home Defenders.

Santos will be taking part in the Champ of Champs for the first time in four years. The last time they qualified for the Champ of Champs was in 2014 when they emerged victorious and represented the Vhembe region in the provincial playoffs. Artists won the Champ of Champs the following year in 2015 and then became the runners up in 2016.

Mpheni Home Defenders won last year’s edition but lost their chance to represent the Vhembe region in the provincial playoffs when Mikhado won a DC case against them for fielding an improperly registered player.

In Group A, Ficus FCTshivhilidulu Hungry Lions and Wayeni Sea Robbers will lock horns against each other at the Malamulele Stadium. A breakfast-time kickoff between Stream I champions Ficus FC and Tshivhilidulu at 08:00 will be followed by Ficus returning to the field again to play Wayeni Sea Robbers a mere two-and-half-hours later at 11:30. Wayeni will then return to conclude Group A games against Tshivhilidulu at 15h00.

The last group which is Group C, will be played at the Tshifulanani Stadium where the two last seasons’ participants Berea FC and Tshakhuma Real Orphans na Ndilani will be looking to better their last years’ performances. They will be joined by the underdogs Nweli Stone Breakers to complete a group of three teams.
