7 June 2018 – The Sasol Women’s League is more often than not exciting, unpredictable, high-octane and filled with goals. The Eastern Cape stream seems to live up to these traits each and every weekend with enthralling rivalries and action.

This past Saturday was no different as Bashee Eagles FC and University of Fort Hare played out to an 8 goal thriller at Dutywa Stadium, with the home team edging proceedings 5-3.

The game typified everything that this league is all about as Eagles edged into fifth spot.

Log leaders City Lads continued their impressive form with an eighth consecutive victory on the trot, with a 3-1 home win against Sophakama Ladies at Chevrolet Stadium.

Lads coach Terry Mrwerwe told SAFA.net: “We have the ability to punish our opponents whenever we are given the opportunity. We got the first goal and then continued to be offensive in the second half and converted a corner kick. Andisiwe Ndesi then used her brutal pace to catch them on the counter as well”.

Lads are unbeaten thus far and Mrwerwe puts it down to hard work: “We get strong commitment from our players and they work very hard both on and off the pitch. We hope to put in even more efforts and learn from each game we play”, concluded the coach.

Golden Stars then edged Amanqilo Birds in another thriller with the home club narrowly coming away with a 3-2 win in a tense affair at PE College. Both teams still languish at the wrong end of the table.

Birmingham City FC then welcomed Thunderbirds Ladies to Amalinda Sports Grounds in a top three clash, with the away team coming through in a credible 2-0 win to keep the pressure on Lads. City will rue not catching up the top two teams.

Cumakala FC (bottom of the table and still searching for their first win of the campaign) and Red Roses Ladies FC then played out to a 1-1 draw at Queenstown while there was to be yet another classic encounter at New Rest Stadium where Eastern Rangers FC got the best of Ayakha Stars Ladies FC in a 4-3 goal-fest.

Manchester Babes then gained a vital 2-0 away win Eluhewini Ladies at Manzana Sports Grounds, while Executive Ladies rounded of the day with a thumping 7-2 win over Highbury at Mt Ayliff.
