14 May 2018 – Very few teams in the Sasol League are as dominating as Eastern Cape log leaders City Lads. To show just how powerful City Lads are, they thrashed 14th placed Cumakala 11-0 in their one sides clash on Saturday to move to the top of the log.

The win now has City looking pretty at the top of the log with a 100% record of five wins from their opening five matches. While they may look all conquering, they are not the only team starting the campaign on a flying note.

Thunderbirds Ladies may not be scoring as free as City Lads, but their effective play has them coming second on the log with 12 points from four matches. In fact, it is not only Thunderbirds who are a threat to City Lads. Birmingham City are also close by on 12 points after winning all their four matches.

When Thunderbirds beat Golden Stars 2-0 to send them to second bottom on the log with no points after four matches, Birmingham were making light work of Eastern Rangers in a game that ended 3-0 in favour of Birmingham.

While things at the top may be giving a picture of the clubs starting like a house on fire, the same cannot be said for Manchester Babes, who are at the basement of the table. Manchester were at the wrong end of a comprehensive 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Red Roses Ladies.

That means Manchester have now lost all their five matches at the beginning of the season, making it top priority for them to fix their problems before it is too late. The other big results of the weekend saw Bashee Eagles thrash Eluhewini 6-2, while University of Fort Hare gave Executive Ladies a 4-2 hiding.

The game between Amanqilo Birds and Ayakha Stars Ladies is the only one that did not produce goals or a winner.
