4 May 2018 – The first edition of the VW SAFA Limpopo Challenge begins next week on Saturday the 12th of May at the Oscar Mphete Stadium as the Limpopo ABC Motsepe League top eight finishers from last season battle it out for a grand prize of R150 000.00

First Game

Polokwane Academy FC vs Boyne Tigers FC (10:00)

Willy ‘Baiano’ Moloto’s Polokwane Academy have the youngest squad in the division and they come into this tournament as the last placed team in the top half of the table. They are the underdogs, they finished 17 points behind their opponents.

But the last time the two teams met, Academy claimed a scrappy 3-2 victory against the Limpopo ABC runners-up and Academy will be motivated to build on that success.

Second Game

Polokwane United FC vs The Dolphins FC (12:00)

If the opponents were to be handpicked to test the champions strengths before the playoffs, many would simply choose to see them pass the test. They shared six points in the 2017/18 season. The champions won 1-0 at home in the first round before United claimed their share of 3 points with 2-1 win just after The Dolphins were officially crowned champions of Limpopo.

The champions boasts the best defensive record. They are led from the back by the highly experienced and one of the most decorated players in the Limpopo ABC Walter “Bucks” Chuma and further solidified by former Winnerspark shotstopper Joshua Ntimane. On the 12th, they will be put under a very stern test when they will be expected to nullify the former Magesi FC striker who bagged 21 league goals in the 2017/18 season.

Third Game

Madridtas FC vs Baroka FC (14:00)

Madridtas might be feeling they had the kindest draw when Lybon Chauke of Polokwane VW unfolded a paper printed Baroka FC as their opponents.

In the most recent encounter between the two, Madridtas thrashed Bakgakga 4-0 at the Tshifudi Stadium. Baroka went on to have a decent finish to their campaign after the recruitment of former Kaizer Chiefs star Sidney Moshikaro as their head coach.

Fourth Game

Great North FC vs Ndengeza FC

Arguably the most exciting game of the quarterfinals. Great North are hailed throughout the province as one of the best team with their tiki-taka play. They the cup specialists in Ndengeza FC. KaTika is well known throughout the northern parts of South Africa for their domination in tournaments and they have already some of the most prestigious local tournaments like the Maimane Alfred Phiri Games

KaTika have the talent needed to lift the trophy but their one player of genuine quality is former Jomo Cosmos and Pirates striker Raymond Maluleke. Maluleke has excellent pace and skill with the ball at his feet and his finishing is up there with the best strikers in the province. Genora Mashele went unbeaten in the 2017/18 season by Jackie Ledwaba, they drew 2-2 in Giyani and Ndengeza won 2-0 away in the second round.
