26 April 2018 – After registering maximum points in the opening two rounds of fixtures of this season’s Sasol Women’s League, head coach of JVW FC, Ciara Picco has set her sights on winning the league title and qualifying for the national championships later this year.
The 2016 Gauteng champions have been impressive since their debut in the league back in 2013 and have grown to become one of the most respected clubs in the country.
Speaking to SAFA.net earlier this week, Picco said the team has adjusted well and the acquisition of three new players to bolster the squad will certainly go a long way in what promises to be a tough season for the Bedfordview based side.
JVW recently let go of influential playmaker, Linda Motlhalo who joins Banyana Banyana captain, Janine Van Wyk at USA based club, Houston Dash.
“As a club, we are quite happy for Linda because she has done well for herself and the club. We have however signed three exciting players who have really come to the fore in the last two matches that we played. They will add value to the team and bring fresh energy” said Picco.
The SAFA C License holding coach added that the team took some hard lessons by watching the national championships from the sidelines and the girls were eager to secure a spot come the end of the season.
“The girls have gone through the struggle of watching the championships from home knowing that they could have been there. This has created a willingness and desire to compete because they understand how important it is for them as a team and players to play at the national championships” added Picco.
Picco will be gunning for all three points and keep the pressure on current log leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns this weekend when they travel to Munsieville Stadium to face Nicco Taurius FC.
