26 April 2018 – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) heaped praise on South African referee, Victor Gomes for showing good ethics and high professionalism in the incident between Nigeria’s Plateau United and U.S.M of Algeria.

SAFA has welcomed the gesture from the continental football governing body.

“The South African Football Association (SAFA) warmly recognises the appreciation shown by CAF to our match officials for their exemplary conduct during one of their recent engagements. We will continue encouraging our match officials to represent the Association and the country well in all future tasks, both here at home and beyond our borders. We say, ‘thumbs up’ to Victor Gomes, Johannes Moshidi, Athenkosi Ndongeni and Chris Harrison,” said Tenda Masikhwa, SAFA Head of Referees.
